Under Maryland law, human remains may not be removed or disturbed from a burial site without proper written authorization from the State’s Attorney for Charles County.
The State’s Attorney may authorize disinterment for reasons including:
Determining the cause of death
Verifying whether remains were buried incorrectly
Reburial purposes
Medical or scientific examination permitted by law
