About the Office
The Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office represents the State of Maryland in criminal prosecutions occurring within Charles County.
The office handles criminal matters in both District Court and Circuit Court and works closely with law enforcement agencies, victims, witnesses and the court system throughout the criminal justice process.
After a crime has been charged, the State’s Attorney’s Office reviews the case and determines appropriate charges before proceeding through:
Bail review
Investigation
Grand jury proceedings
Trial
Sentencing
Under Maryland law, once criminal charges have been filed, only the State’s Attorney’s Office may dismiss those charges.
